Rob : One Atheism and Theism

Atheism and Theism

Posted on Mar 6th, 2006 by Rob : One Rob

Buddha didn't use the term 'God' since it had so many different meanings to so may different people. He was definitely on to something there. It does seem silly in a way for any of us to call ourselves atheists or theists since there's really no difinitive...definition, of what God is. So, in the effort to dissolve polarities and give people a common ground to meet on, could it possibly be acceptable to both atheists and theists to say that God is the Nature of nature? I mean, beyond that, the whole thing continues to be a subjective process of discovery, evaluation and insight where one may or may not find religiosity to be useful in the spiritual quest...where he may or may not define God for himself at greater depth... I'm reminded of an article that I read a while back with Dr. Amit Goswami(One of the featured speakers in the 'What the Bleep' movie), where he explains that we've sort of been approaching our understanding of life in an odd way. For centuries we've looked at the world as though matter was the foundation of all being, when in fact, with our current understanding, it would appear that Consciousness is the ground of being! So, if God is the Nature of nature, and Consciousness is the ground of being, it seems as though a relationship between Divinity and the individual is much more tangible. In non-theist terms, one could say that there is a clear relationship between subjectivity and the nature of experience. Certainly there are some belief sets which don't agree at all with this notion. Nevertheless, it could possibly serve to bring many of us together in greater effect. Peace to All, -Rob

I’d just rather rid all titles and say the name Adam used. See, easy.  :-)

well, yeah, getting rid of all titles is the eventual idea…but in order to get to that point, everyone must let go of their attatchments to the titles that they already use…
This post was mainly intent upon dispelling the polarity between atheism and theism…to dissolve the aversion that those in one category have towards those in the other category.
Once that aversion/polarity is resolved, the need to label things falls away all on its own.

Somethings are better learned by the willingness of humble hearts. And it seems clear free will is drugged up by many. It brings to mind the two roads mentioned in one of the holy books. No one escapes choices.

Good will on your part though.

what keeps a heart from being humble?
Prideful attatchment would seem to be the case much of the time.
lol, seems to beg to question if it’s letting go that potentiates humility, or humility that potentiates letting go?
Probably a concurrent phenomena that transpires when consciousness reaches some sort of threshold….
I dunno, ha ha.

One of the things that also sparked this blog, was that I have found many of my atheist friends believe in the same God that I believe in…they just don’t think of it as being God.
Perhaps in letting go of the attatchment to the label of atheist, they might free themselves to experience a deeper reverence for that which they do believe in?

In peace,

I'd like to think that I go beyond Atheism. An Atheist says “I don't believe in god,” which, in its self, acknowleges the existance of a god.

I believe there is no god. And that's the only thing I believe. Everything else is just a series of thoughts and ideas. It's easier to change an idea than it is a belief.
